Grape to Wine

Long Island Winery Limo has learned the art of winemaking from the best wineries in town and wants to cosset you with some interesting information about the whole process of winemaking which starts from fruit and ends in the creation of a liquid elixir called wine. 

Growing – once the grapevine is planted, it takes about 3 years for it to bear fruit. Irrespective of the age of the plant grapes only grow on younger stalks which are about one year old.

Harvest– Once mature grapes are plucked by machine or manually, they are then transferred to the crushing pad where sorting and crushing take place.

Crushing– Any unwanted stuff is removed like leaves or bad grapes and then the whole lot is crushed.

Fermentation– After crushing comes the fermentation process and then filtration so that whatever impurities remain in the wine can be removed.

Aging- This is the longest process in winemaking. Oak barrels give smooth vanilla flavored wines whereas steel tanks are used for white wines.

Bottling– The final step is to bottle that fine wine after an additional filtration procedure.
